LAKE SUPERIOR WRITERS CONTEST

2008-09 CONTEST
Writers' and Printmakers' Collaboration
Trail Guide: A Northland Experience in Prints and Poetry

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

THIRD BIENNIAL POETRY AND PRINTS COLLABORATION
AT THE NORTHERN PRINTS GALLERY

See below to view the prints for the next collaboration with the Northern Printmakers Alliance. In our collaboration two years ago, we were so intrigued by the variety of interpretations of the prints that, this year, we hope to select a number of different poems in response to each print -- and to enlarge the book that we publish. Poets are invited to enter as many poems as they wish, and choose any number of partner images. The title of the show and the chapbook is "TRAIL GUIDE: A Northland Experience in Prints and Poetry."

The publication will offer an immersion in the northland experience for visitors and tourists. Books will be sold at gift and tourist shops and book shops in Duluth and throughout the Northland. The exhibit will run from August 28 to October 25. Writers will read their work at the opening on Thursday, August 28, from 5 - 8 pm. Writers should continue to check the LSW website for new images.

SUBMISSIONS: Submissions must be sent by July 11 by email to Cal Benson at <calbenmn@gmail.com>. Selected poets will be notified by email, no later than July 20. Or send submissions to: ‘Trail Guide,’ Lake Superior Writers, Suite 132, 1301 Rice Lake Rd., Duluth MN 55811. (218-722-3094).

SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR THE BOOK. The book project is entirely dependent on poets, printmakers, and friends of LSW and the NPA. The project needs 100 subscriptions of $75 to cover printing costs for a larger, Perfect-bound book that will sell for $25 and will contain more poetry than the alternative, chapbook-sized publication. Each subscriber will receive five books. If only a chapbook is published, due to not receiving enough subcriptions, fewer poems will be included. In that event, each $75 subscriber will receive seven books that will sell for $15. Subscription pledges must be in to Cecilia Lieder <cele@northernprintsgallery.com> by July 15, 2008 with checks sent to Lieder at the Northern Prints Gallery, 318 North 14th Avenue East, Duluth, MN 55805 no later than Aug 1
.

Only LSW members may enter. To renew or join LSW for the 2008-2009 membership year (July 1-June 30) fill out the Membership form and mail it in with your contest entry.
