LSW ACTIVITIES AND NEWS.

* June LSW e-calendar

[Editor’s note: All submissions of upcoming
events—one-time events and regularly scheduled
events—must include in this order day, date, time, name of
event, specific location, name of organization or merchant,
contact person, and contact information if available. Events
are arranged by date rather than lumped together by store,
agency, or person. Normal Ariel 10-point is the font used in
the newsletter. No html formatting is used. Proofreading is
greatly appreciated. Remember that this is a calendar and
not a newsletter, so brevity is important. Thank you.]

***** LSW News & Events

* Sunday, June 8, 3-5 pm Lake Superior Writers Annual
Meeting and Members’ Reading. Quaker Meeting House, 1802
E. 1st St, Duluth, 218-724-2659. The public is invited and
refreshments will be served.

* 3rd BIENNIAL POETRY AND PRINTS COLLABORATION AT THE
NORTHERN PRINTS GALLERY
This is a reminder to poets of LSW about the prints that
will soon be posted on the LSW website for the next
collaboration with the Northern Printmakers Alliance. We
hope to have them posted by Friday, June 6. Poets are
invited to enter as many poems as they wish, and choose any
number of partner images. Two years ago, we were so
intrigued by the variety of interpretations of the prints
that, this year, we hope to be selecting a number of
different poems for each print -- and to enlarge the book
that we publish. The title of the show and the chapbook is
"TRAIL GUIDE: A Northland Experience in Prints and Poetry."
The concept is to offer a shortcut to immersion in the
northland experience for visitors and tourists. We will
offer these books for sale at many gift and tourist shops
and book shops in Duluth and throughout the Northland. The
exhibit will run from August 28 to October 25. As always, we
hope the poets will read their poems at the opening, which
is on Thursday, August 28, from 5 - 8 pm. Printmakers will
be submitting their work during the first few weeks of June.
Poets should continue to check the LSW website for new
images.

SUBMISSIONS: Submissions must be made by email and will be
received by Cal Benson at <calbenmn@gmail.com>. Selected
poets will be notified by email, no later than July 20.

SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR THE CHAPBOOK. The chapbook -- or perhaps
even a Perfect Bound book, depending on the response --
will, as usual, be funded entirely by subscriptions from
participants or friends. Without adequate subscriptions, we
are not able to cover the printing costs. Anything larger
than 50 pages usually requires Perfect Binding, which is
more expensive, and this year we are aiming at a book more
dense with poems than we have been able to publish before.
We also hope to increase the number of books printed, so
they can be widely distributed in the region. All this means
higher printing costs. As a result, we are asking for a
basic subscription of $75, or multiples of $75. We will need
100 subscriptions to cover printing costs for the larger
book. The larger book would sell for $25, but for each
subscription, the subscriber will receive five books, a
significant discount.

If, however, we are unable to meet that subscription goal,
we will scale down the plan to chapbook size again, with
fewer submissions of both prints and poems published. In
that case, each $75 subscription will net 7 books per
subscriber, and sell for the usual $15. Subscription pledges
must be in to Cecilia Lieder
<cele@northernprintsgallery.com> by July 15, 2008 with
checks sent to Lieder at the Northern Prints Gallery, 318
North 14th Avenue East, Duluth, MN 55805 no later than
August 1.
