** THIRD BIENNIAL POETRY AND PRINTS COLLABORATION AT THE
NORTHERN PRINTS GALLERY "TRAIL GUIDE: A Northland Experience
in Prints and Poetry" offers a shortcut to immersion in the
northland experience for visitors and tourists. The poems
and prints have been selected and the book is ready to
print, but ** MORE SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE NEEDED** The exhibit
will run from August 28 to October 25, however, and the
poets will read their poems at the opening, Thursday, August
28, from 5 - 8 pm at the Northern Prints Gallery, 318 North
14th Avenue East, Duluth, MN.
SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR THE CHAPBOOK. The project needs 100
subscriptions of $75 to cover printing costs for the larger
book which would sell for $25. Each subscriber will receive
five books of the large version or seven of the small
version which sells for $15. Subscription pledges must be in
to Cecilia Lieder <cele@northernprintsgallery.com> with
checks sent to Lieder at the Northern Prints Gallery, 318
North 14th Avenue East, Duluth, MN 55805 as soon as
possible.

** Saturday, Aug 2, 7 pm in Ely, MN - Poetry Reading at the
Washington Auditorium: spoken word/cello performance with
Sheila Packa and Kathy McTavish performing new work.

** The Children's Writers Group will meet Monday August 11th

** Mary Ellen Ryall's article “Seniors remember a girl of
long, long ago” was published in the Washburn County
Register on July 23. Ryall is Executive Director of Happy

** "On the Road to Rochester" by Jan Chronister will be
published in this year's Talking Stick, published by the
Jack Pine Writers Group. Jan's poem "The Sacred Buck of
Watersmeet" has been published in this year's anthology put
out by Outrider Press of Indiana. Jan took First Place at
the Seeley Poetry Jam on July 5.

** Sheila Packa has a new chapbook and audio CD, "Fearful
Journey," published by Wildwood River Press. Music by Kathy
McTavish.

** Gary Boelhower's poem "Hawks Ridge" was accepted for
inclusion in the League of Minnesota Poets anthology County
Lines, published by Loonfeather Press for the Minnesota
Sesquicentennial.

** Eric Chandler’s stories "Hiking: Bean and Bear Lakes"
and "Sailing Through the Portal of Doom" were published in
the July-August issue of Northern Wilds. His column "Happy
to have landed in Duluth" was published in the July 13 issue
of the Duluth News Tribune.

** Two poems by Mark Maire, "This Time" and “Shift", have
been accepted for publication in the next issue of the
Minnetonka Review. Check the website at

taught by Jan Chronister at WITC-Ashland beginning October 6
for four consecutive Monday nights from 6:00-9:00.

Board of Directors: LSW is governed by an 11-member board. Potential board members are interviewed by a nomination committee and presented to the board for vote. In the past, many board members have been chosen from the group of members who serve on our committees and who volunteer.
