NORTHERN PRINTS GALLERY “EROTIC JUSTICE,
A DIALOGUE ON CONTEMPORARY SEXUALITY” through March 31; Opening
& Reading, Feb 28, 5-8 pm, 318 N. 14th Ave. E., Duluth. Six
Northern Printmakers Alliance printmakers and six Lake Superior
Writers have come together to dialogue on various issues of
contemporary sexuality. A chapbook of the literary works will
be available at the gallery (publisher: Calyx Press Duluth).
Writers include: Jeff Holden, Sheila Packa, Barton Sutter,
Ellie Schoenfeld, John McCormick and Mara Kirk Hart.

This month, we’ll read “After Ashley” by Gina Gionfriddo,

DULUTH OUTLOUD: A SENSE OF PLACE April
28, Sat 7 pm - "Duluth Outloud: A Sense of Place" at LaFayette
Community Center, 3026 Minnesota Avenue, Duluth. This poetry
reading, to celebrate Duluth and the surrounding region, is
organized by Duluth poet laureate Bart Sutter. The poetry
reading will feature 12 poets, including Cal Benson, Gary
Boelhower, Deborah Cooper, Jean Alice Jacobson, Jim Johnson,
Paul Lundgren, Liz Minette, Sheila Packa, Ellie Schoenfeld,
Bart Sutter, Ryan Vine, and Connie Wanek. The reading is free
and open to the public; refreshments will be served.

TIM J BRENNAN’S poem "Wild Raspberries"
will be included in the spring issue of Main Channel Voices
(March 15). Also "Gong Fu" was accepted by River Walk Journal
for a forthcoming issue.
SARAH CHAPMAN has published a memoir

SHARON CHMIELARZ recently had a poem
published in “American Life in Poetry.”
LINDA GLASER’S historical novel “Bridge
to America” has been selected by the MN Chapter of Delta Kappa
Gamma to honor at their 2007 convention. Delta Kappa Gamma
is an international honor society for women educators, and
every other year they select a children’s book to honor.
BRUCE HENRICKSEN'S newest short story,
"3:41 p.m.," has been published in Louisiana in Words (Pelican),
an anthology devoted to life in Louisiana. Bruce will participate
in the book-launch in New Orleans on March 18 and will speak
to creative writing students and faculty at Loyola University
New Orleans on March 19.
VI LaBOUNTY has a pencil & charcoal
sketch accepted for publication in Dust & Fire's Women's Anthology,
'07 entitled "Granddaughter Teaching Self To Play Baritone
Uke.”
LINDA LeGARDE GROVER received second
prize in the National League of Pen Women’s 2006 Soul-Making
Literary Competition for her nove excerpt from “The Power
of Frybread.” She will read and present her work at the awards
videotaping on March 25 in San Francisco.
A poem by MARK MAIRE will appear in
the Spring 2007 issue of Blueline, a long-standing literary
magazine published at the State University of New York in
Potsdam.
MARY ELLEN RYALL’s articles “Life is
a parade” and “Santa’s helpers” were published in January
2007. Washburn County Register published the inserts as part
of the weekly column, Lakeland Manor by Janice Organ. Recently,
Ryall published the “Colonization of maize: History, culture,
biodiversity, and society,” on Happy Tonics, an educational
Web site at http://www.happytonics.org. The research paper
is being referenced as a sample paper for sociology classes,
at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College. Happy Tonics promotes
sanctuary for the monarch butterfly. Ryall writes about food
safety issues.
FRANCINE STERLE will read from her
collection of ekphrastic poems, “Nude in Winter,” and conduct
at workshop at Olean Public Library, Olean, NY on March 8.

LGBTQ Campus and Community Honoring Reception Keynote by Christine
Jenkins, "Finding the LGBT Community on the Page: Seeking
People Like Me." At UW-Superior Multicultural Center, 232
Old Main. Twelve campus and community members will be honored
for their work on behalf of LGBTQ people. The Jim Dan Hill
Library will provide a display of recommended books. Dr. Jenkins
is the UW-Superior's keynote speaker for Women's History Month.
She teaches in the Graduate School of Library and Information
Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
where she specializes in school and public youth librarianship,
children's and young adult literature, and literacy studies.
Her perspectives are also informed by ten years of experience
in K-6 and 7-9 public schools in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and
by her past work as the Intellectual Freedom Information Coordinator
for the Children's Cooperative Book Center at UW-Madison.

Gay and Back Again: Books for Teens with Gay/Lesbian/Queer
Content, 1969-2006." Talk by Christine Jenkins on the history
of LGBTQ young adult literature, its growth and development,
and what is still needed. Northern Lights Bookstore will provide
a display of recommended books with an opportunity to order

photos “Moving Waters: Adventures on Northern Rivers.” Refreshments

speak and show slides to promote his new book from Stone Ridge

ABOUT THE LSW BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND
THE LSW MEMBERSHIP Member Involvement: We value our membership
and encourage your involvement in LSW. An annual meeting for
LSW members is held in the spring. All members are invited
to participate. Financial reports and a summary of the year's
activities are presented to the membership at the annual meeting
for review. The LSW board meets monthly throughout the year.
Members are invited to attend board meetings, review minutes,
and look over financial statements.
Board
of Directors: LSW is governed by an 11-member board. Potential
board members are interviewed by a nomination committee and
presented to the board for vote. In the past, many board members
have been chosen from the group of members who serve on our
