Nov 4, Sat 1 pm. DULUTH POET LAUREATE
NOVEMBER EVENT. FREE: “A Short Oral History of Poetry
in Duluth,” in the Green Room of the Duluth Public Library.
A panel presentation and discussion with Barton Sutter (moderator),
Mara Hart, Cal Benson, and Ellie Schoenfeld. The event will
also include a display of regional books and journals.

CELEBRATING PUBLICATIONS BY LSW MEMBERS
Dec 3, 2 pm - It's a publication party! Lake Superior Writers'
members who have recently published a book will read from
their works, and all members of LSW who have published books
are invited to sign and display their publications in the
Lake Superior Writers Meeting Room, 1301 Rice Lake Rd, Duluth.
Books will be available for purchase. The event is free, open
to the public, and refreshments will be served. For more information
or if you are an author interested in participating, contact

“A Scent of God” will be a guest author on a literary
cruise organized by Gather.com.
LISA MCKHANN’s essay “Build
a Garden Shed Instead” was accepted by A View From the
Loft, and is scheduled to be published next spring.

Reading featuring poet Sharon Chmielarz at Drummond Public
Library and Historical Museum, 14990 Superior St., Drummon,
WI. Chmielarz will read from her books “The Other Mozart”
and “The Rhubarb King.” Prior to the featured
poet, audience members are invited to read one or two pages
of poetry. Refreshments served. Sponsored by the Drummond
Public Library, CHARAC (Cable/Hayward Area Arts Council) and

Nov 16, Thur 4 pm - UMD Library hosts
the Minnesota Crime Wave, featuring popular mystery writers
Ellen Hart, Carl Brookins, and William Kent Krueger. If you
love mysteries or have ever considered writing one, this event
will give you a front row encounter with the genre and several
experienced perpetrators. Cumulatively, members of the Minnesota
Crime Wave have published 30 crime novels and won more than
16 national and regional awards. This “Meet the Author”
event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will
be served, and the authors will sell and sign copies of their

Nov 18, 7:30 pm - Poet PHILIP DACEY
will perform stand up poetry in Somers Lounge at the College
of St. Scholastica, a presentation of the SPIRIT LAKE POETRY
SERIES. A growing movement in American literary circles, stand
up poetry emphasizes performability and humor. Dacey is considered
one of the pioneers of the format, along with Charles Bukowski,
Billy Collins and numerous others. Dacey is the author of
eight full-length books of poems; his latest release is "Three
Shades of Green: Poems of Fatherhood" a chapbook from
Snark Publishing. Admission to the event is free, and complimentary
refreshments will be served. Dacey will sign books following
his performance.

ABOUT THE LSW BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND
THE LSW MEMBERSHIP Member Involvement: We value our membership
and encourage your involvement in LSW. An annual meeting for
LSW members is held in the spring. All members are invited
to participate. Financial reports and a summary of the year's
activities are presented to the membership at the annual meeting
for review. The LSW board meets monthly throughout the year.
Members are invited to attend board meetings, review minutes,
and look over financial statements.
Board
of Directors: LSW is governed by an 11-member board. Potential
board members are interviewed by a nomination committee and
presented to the board for vote. In the past, many board members
have been chosen from the group of members who serve on our
committees and who volunteer. Contact
