CELEBRATE NEW & RECENT PUBLICATIONS
BY MEMBERS OF LAKE SUPERIOR WRITERS
Dec 3, Sun 2-5 pm - It’s a publication party! Lake Superior
Writers’ members who have recently published a book
will read from their works, and all members of LSW who have
published books are invited to sign and display their publications
in the Lake Superior Writers Meeting Room, 1301 Rice Lake
Rd, Duluth. Reading and signing books: Donna Schilling, Bruce
Henricksen, Donald Dass, Connie Wanek, Mara Hart, Sharon Chmielarz,
Deborah Cooper, and Bart Sutter. Books and book signing: Tracy
Maurer, Marlene Wisuri, Ellen Sandbeck, Cele Lieder, Sarah
Chapman, Shirley Wuchter and Holy Cow Press. Books will be
available for purchase. The event is free, open to the public,
and refreshments will be served.
LSW WRITERS’ SQUARE TABLE
Dec 21, Thur 11:30 am – LAKE SUPERIOR WRITERS’
SQUARE TABLE meets on the main floor private dining room at
Sara's Table, 1902 E. 8th Street (the room to the left as
you enter). For December, we’re asking people to share
their favorite writers’ resources: books, magazine,
newsletters, websites, etc. Open to all.
NEW LSW COMMUNITY WRITING PROGRAM SEEKS TEACHERS/FACILITATORS
LSW member Donna Schilling will facilitate a free 6-week Monday
memoir class, WRITING LIFE STORIES Jan 8 through Feb 12, 2007,
9-10:30 a.m. at Portman Square. “Writing Our Life Stories,”
is a community outreach program designed to offer beginning
writers assistance in writing their memoirs. Donna expects
the class participants to mostly include seniors. After the
pilot program, she hopes to expand it and offer it at other
community centers in the city and assisted living facilities
and/or nursing homes. If you’re interested in helping
Donna launch this program, please contact her at 525-1012.
She is looking for writers who would be interested in facilitating
future classes or assisting in overseeing writing groups that
may wish to continue to work together after completion of
the classes.

BERYL SINGLETON BISSELL was selected
as a Minneapolis Star Tribune Best Minnesota Authors of 2006
for her book “The Scent of God.” See the list

LINDA GLASER’S historical novel
for children, “Bridge to America, Based on a True Story”
was named a Sydney Taylor Notable and listed as a Banks Street
Best Children's Book of the Year.
BRUCE HENRICKSEN’S essay on the
poet James Wright appears in the Dec issue of Minnesota Literature.
Bruce also has two new pieces available at Amazon Shorts (Amazon.com):
"The Wings of Sisyphus," a short story about a tenacious
woman's lonely walk home in Duluth, and "The Zero Club
Papers" an anecdotal essay about his experiences promoting
his book, “Ticket to a Lonely Town.”
LINDA LEGARDE GROVER has received Honorable
Mention in the Winning Writers 2006 War Poetry contest for
her poem “Casualty Days.”
CECILIA LIEDER has a new solo exhibit
of her woodcuts and stone lithographs. "FLOWER/PEOPLE"
is on display through Jan 6 at Northern Prints Gallery, 318
North 14th Avenue East Duluth, open noon to 5 pm, Wed through
Sat & by appointment at other times. Cecilia also has
a solo exhibit through Jan 5 at the North Shore Bank of Commerce,
downtown Duluth, as part of their “Viewing From the

LISE LUNGE-LARSEN will sign her new
children's book, “Noah’s Mittens” at St.
Olaf College in Northfield on Dec 3, in Rochester on Dec 6,
and on Dec 7 will be guest speaker at the annual St. Lucia
Day luncheon at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. “Noah's
Mittens” was chosen by the New York Public Library for
their annual list of 100 best books for reading and sharing
and it has also been selected as a Book Sense top pick for
winter 2006-2007.
ANNE STEWART’S children's book,
“I Saw a Moose Today,” with illustrations by Brent
Spink was just published by Raven Productions, Inc. of Ely,
MN. The books tells the story, in rhyme, of Whims Wiggin who
is sent outside to play by busy parents cleaning the house.
Whims gets bored and imagination kicks in big time as Whims
has wild
adventures with a moose, loon, bear, beaver, bat, luna moth,
lynx, and a pileated woodpecker.
GAIL TROWBRIDGE’S essay “The
Linotype” received second prize in Minnesota Literature’s
essay contest, and will be published in an upcoming issue
of the newsletter. Gail will give a reading of her essay at
Micawber’s Bookstore in St. Paul on Sunday, Jan 14.

Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, Career Development Grants
of up to $1,000 are given three times a year to allow northeastern
Minnesota writers to take advantage of a specific arts opportunity,
such as a writers conference. Poets, fiction writers, and
creative nonfiction writers can submit no more than 10 pages
of poetry or 15 pages of fiction or creative nonfiction, a
resumé, and a project description by Nov 30. There

ABOUT THE LSW BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND
THE LSW MEMBERSHIP Member Involvement: We value our membership
and encourage your involvement in LSW. An annual meeting for
LSW members is held in the spring. All members are invited
to participate. Financial reports and a summary of the year's
activities are presented to the membership at the annual meeting
for review. The LSW board meets monthly throughout the year.
Members are invited to attend board meetings, review minutes,
and look over financial statements.
Board
of Directors: LSW is governed by an 11-member board. Potential
board members are interviewed by a nomination committee and
presented to the board for vote. In the past, many board members
have been chosen from the group of members who serve on our
