JOIN THE NEW LSW ALL-GENRE WRITING GROUP
August 9, Wed, 6 pm at the Barnes & Noble Café - If you have writing to share, keep your piece under 10 pages, and if possible, bring copies to share. Each person attending will be given time to either get feedback on their writing, or to discuss an aspect of writing with the group. Questions- Call Gail Trowbridge at 728-1354.

POET LAUREATE EVENTS COMING THIS FALL
The Inaugural Reading for the Duluth Poet Laureate will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sat. Oct 21 in the Weber Music Hall. On Sat. Nov 4, an event entitled, "A Short History of Poetry in Duluth," will be held at the Green Room of the Duluth Public Library. Watch future issues of the LSW e-calendar for more details.

“The Scent of God,” BERYL SINGLETON BISSELL’S memoir, will be going into paperback April 2007, one year after the release of the hardcover version. She will be a featured guest on Midmorning with Kerri Miller, MPR, Aug 15 at 10 am.

JAN CHRONISTER placed second at the 8th Annual Poetry Jam in Seeley on July 8.

MARA HART and S.T. Joshi are editors of the newly released book, “Lovecraft’s New York Circle: The Kalem Club, 1924-1927,” published by Hippocampus Press, New York. Available from Hippocampus, Amazon.com, B&N.com, and local bookstores.

The Elmer L. & Eleanor J. Andersen Foundation has awarded a grant of $1,000 to Duluth-based HOLY COW! PRESS to support the publication of FROM WHERE THE RIVERS COME, a first poetry collection by Saint Paul writer Richard Solly, scheduled for release in October. The book has been selected as a "Midwest Favorite" for inclusion in the Midwest Booksellers Association 2006 Holiday Catalog.

PETER M. LESCHAK’S tenth book, "In the Captain's House," will be published by North Star Press this autumn.

“The Moon Rolls Out of Our Mouths,” a poetry anthology by DEB COOPER, CANDACE GINSBERG, ANN NIEDRINGHAUS, ELLIE SCHOENFELD, ANNE SIMPSON and published by Calyx Press of Duluth, has been selected as a textbook for the Introduction to Literature classes at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The professor, Dr. Catherine Henze, will assign groups of five students each to one of the poets and have each group e-mail their questions/ comments to the poet. The poets will respond to the students' e-mails and class discussion will be based on their interactions.

ANN NIEDRINGHAUS was invited to participate in a July workshop at the Collegeville Institute at St. John's University. It was titled POETRY, PROSE AND PRAYER: CREATIVE WRITING AND THE LIFE OF FAITH. The workshop's teacher was Michael Dennis Browne from the University of Minnesota.

NEW EDITING OPPORTUNITY FOR LSW MEMBERS
LSW is initiating a new editing service for members. If you are interested in becoming an editor for other LSW members, please let us know. There is a one-time registration fee of $10.00 to sign up as an editor. Those engaging your services will agree to pay you $25.00/hour directly. If you are interested in being listed as an LSW editor, please submit a letter that 1. describes your editing experience and qualifications ; 2. indicates the kinds of writing you are interested in editing (e.g. poetry, fiction, memoir, non-fiction, children's books, etc.); 3. gives contact information for those wanting to work with you. POETRY WORKSHOP

"Writing Poetry" is a six-week Continuing Education course offered through WITC-Superior and taught by Jan Chronister. The class is appropriate for novices and experienced writers alike. 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 19-Oct. 24 at the Superior campus. Register through WITC. ABOUT THE LSW BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THE LSW MEMBERSHIP
Member Involvement: We value our membership and encourage your involvement in LSW. An annual meeting for LSW members is held in the spring. All members are invited to participate. Financial reports and a summary of the year's activities are presented to the membership at the annual meeting for review. The LSW board meets monthly throughout the year. Members are invited to attend board meetings, review minutes, and look over financial statements.

Board of Directors: LSW is governed by an 11-member board. Potential board members are interviewed by a nomination committee and presented to the board for vote. In the past, many board members have been chosen from the group of members who serve on our committees and who volunteer.
