April 14, 21, 28, and May 5, Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm, LSW Spring Class:  INSIDE OUT, a four-session writing class for those who have lost a loved one, facilitated by Deborah Cooper, poet and chaplain. Finding words for grief and giving voice to it can be an avenue for healing, a way of recovering balance and deepening understanding.  The act of writing engages a process of expressing the heart's truth, a process that can offer insight, light and resolution.  Deborah Cooper is a certified chaplain. She has served in a variety of settings in the Twin Ports community over the last twenty years. Her poetry has been published in numerous literary journals and anthologies. She is the author of two chapbooks, “Redirection of the Heart” (New Song Press) and “the gods of wild things” (Poetry Harbor). Fee:  Members: $60, Non-Members: $75. Register by April 7. April 18, Sunday, 2 pm. Writers Speak Out: Travelling to Find Ourselves. Lake Superior Writers presents a reading event in conjunction with the Duluth Public Library’s Community Reading Project on “Huckleberry Finn.” Several regional writers will read selections on the theme of self discovery and epiphany, followed by an open reading, and discussion. All writers and listeners are invited to join in the exploration of the modern implications of Huck Finn’s adventurous journey down the Mississippi. UnGala and SILENT AUCTION: Lake Superior Writers is holding an unExpected unGala on Thursday, May 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Great Lakes Aquarium, at 353 Harbor Drive, in Duluth and you are invited. $ 25 per person includes a private viewing of the Great Lakes Aquarium, entertainment, an hors d'oeuvres buffet, and a complimentary drink from Bellisio's fine drink selection. There will be readings by Liz Minette, Mark Munger, Margie Preus, Ellie Schoenfeld and Barton Sutter. Music by Mark Rubin and Sara Thomsen.

Or make a donation of your work. Do you have a poem about apples? Attach your poem to a basket of apples and donate them to the auction. Have an essay about winter? Attach it to a pair of mittens. Have you written about quilting ( a quilted pillow), rain (umbrella), spring (pot of tulips), bread (bread)? Think of a gift that will match your work.

Frame a poem; make a set of notecards, offer to arrive at a birthday party and read a special poem that you have written for the occasion. We are betting that you have even better ideas than this!
