winning authors of the Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Heavenly
Virtues writing contest: Rosa Carlisle, Ellen Quinn, Marcia
Peck, Jeff Lewis, Ellie Schoenfeld, Martha Aas, and Carol
Dunbar. The event will take place at the Karpeles Manuscript

***LSW MEMBER KUDOS
ANTHONY BUKOSKI was recently named the R.V. Cassill Fellow
in Fiction from the Christopher Isherwood Foundation. Bukoski's
fourth short story collection, "Time Between Trains"
(released July 31), has so far received reviews in Publishers
Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist, the latter a starred
review. The book is being considered for an Alex Award from
the American Library Association.
MARY WILLETTE HUGHES has a new book of poetry called, "Flight
on New Wings, Healing Through Poetry," published by North
Star Press and released in July. The poems have been used
in poetry therapy sessions for three years in the Recovery
Plus unit for addiction at the St. Cloud Hospital and are
based on her family's experiences. Available at Barnes and

Writing is an extremely personal activity and often times
a small group works best for giving support and critique.
Several LSW groups meet regularly. When established groups
have openings, we will list the contact people in this space.

MN LIT: Minnesota Literature wants essays, up to 900 words,
that express opinions on literary issues and questions, or
profile interesting events or personalities. Payment $50.

NEW RIVERS PRESS invites emerging writers of poetry, short
fiction, novels, novellas, personal essays, memoirs, and other
forms of creative prose to submit to the annual Minnesota
Voices Project, MVP series, between October 1 and November
30 2003. The press will publish the winning manuscripts. This
competition is open to all writers:one title will be selected
from all submissions, while two titles will be selected from
writers who reside in Minnesota or New York City. Prose submissions
should be between 100 and 250 pages. Poetry submissions should
