reader at the Second Sunday Poets reading at the Drummond
Public Library in Drummond, Wisconsin.Theme: "Exploring

and Robert Shutes will share information and answer questions
on their recently released nature guides. Mead's "Dragonflies
of the Northwoods" is a comprehensive reference to all
102 species of area dragonflies complete with color photos.
Shutes provides an intriguing look into the personalities
of pine trees with "Society of Pines: An Introduction

Hugh Bishop will tell stories of supernatural, unnatural and
unexplained phenomena from his book "Haunted Lake Superior".

November 9, 1 pm: Lake Superior Writers is planning an event
called "WRITERS SPEAK OUT ON BROTHERHOOD AND SISTERHOOD"
to raise funds for the Clayton, Jackson, McGhie Memorial.
We are planning an afternoon of readings interspersed with
music and other entertainment on Sunday, November 9 at 1 p.m.
In the YFC building at 201 E. First Street, and at the Clayton,
Jackson, McGhie Memorial site across the street. Join Bart
Sutter, Ellie Schoenfeld, Heidi Bakk-Hansen, area organizations
and other writers. An open reading is included. Admission
$10 per person; $20 per family.

KATHLEEN HILLS' debut novel "Past Imperfect" will

a small group works best for giving support and critique.

DUST AND FIRE The Bemidji State University English Department
is seeking visual art and writing by women to be included
in the 18th annual "Dust and Fire"anthology. The
submission deadline is October 24 for the publication that
showcases female writers and artists. "Dust and Fire"
was inspired by the late author Meridel Le Sueur, who wrote,
"I am woman speaking for us all. From the tongue of dust

NEW RIVERS PRESS invites emerging writers of poetry, short
fiction, novels,novellas, personal essays, memoirs, and other
forms of creative prose to submit to the annual Minnesota
Voices Project, MVP series, between October 1 and November30
2003. The press will publish the winning manuscripts. This
competition is open to all writers. One title will be selected
from all submissions, while two titles will be selected from
writers who reside in Minnesota or New York City. Prose submissions
