***LSW MEMBER KUDOS!
BRUCE HENRICKSON's story "A Tale of Autumn and Spring"
will appear in the spring issue of Arts & Letters. His
short story "Rest Stop" appears online at Full Circle
Journal and in the "best of" print edition. The
story is set near Duluth.
CLEO HUTTON has published "Striking Back at Stroke:
A Doctor-Patient Journal" by Cleo Hutton and Louis R.
Caplan, M.D. published by The Dana Press and distributed worldwide
by The University of Chicago Press. The book is scheduled
for release in May. Because of the nature of this nonfiction
journal Cleo has chosen to publish under the pseudonym Cleo
Hutton. Cleo is a member of Lake Superior Writers.
MARGIE PREUS and ANN TREACY's book, "A Book of Grace"
was named a finalist for the 2003 Minnesota Book Award.
DIANA RANDOLPH had an essay titled, "Can We Put a Price
Tag on Washburn Walking Trail?" published in the April
issue of The Lake Superior Sounder. One of her poems is published
on the web site: www.peacenorth.org
CHERYL REITAN'S essay "Regret," will be published
in the Spring 2003 University of Minnesota Duluth's literary
magazine, "The Roaring Muse."
JEAN SRAMEK has an essay included in "Voices for the
Land," a book by Brian Peterson, photographer, published
by Minnesota Historical Society Press. "Voices for the
Land" was named a finalist for the 2003 Minnesota Book
Award.
JIM PERLMAN, publisher, Holy Cow! Press, has a book, "Chasing
Fire: Danger in Canoe Country" by author Earl Fleck (Shakopee),
named as a finalist for the 2003 Minnesota Book Award.

MINNESOTA MONTHLY 2003 TAMARACK AWARD
The Minnesota Monthly Tamarack Award is an annual prize for
excellence in short fiction. Short fiction (between 1000 and
3000 words) is accepted for consideration. The competition
is open to residents of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota,
Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan Submit one original, unpublished

SEVEN DEADLY SINS - Lake Superior Writers is collaborating
with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra in our fourth
writers' contest. This unique competition will seek prose
works and poetry that explore the intersection of "music
and morality" in a series of DSSO concerts based on the
Seven Deadly Sins and their more positive counterparts. In
seven performances, beginning in September, each concert will
feature orchestra performances based on a specific sin and
virtue. Selected writers will receive a $300 honorarium and
