Feb 9, Reading 2 pm.; bookfair 9 am. to 9 pm. LSW and Barnes
& Noble Bookstore (Miller Hill Mall) will host a St. Valentine's
Reading and Bookfair to benefit Lake Superior Writers on Feb
9 at 2 pm. "Lovefest: Stories & Poems" will
feature twelve local authors: Don Cameron, Kyle Eller, Nancy
Fitzgerald, Joe Maiolo, Micky McGilligan, Liz Minette, Sheila
Packa, Justin Powers, Cheryl Reitan, Ellie Schoenfeld, Bart
Sutter, and Connie Wanek. An open reading will follow and
the public is invited to participate. The reading is free
and open to the public and a percentage of booksales throughout
the day (from 9 am. to 9 pm.) will be donated to Lake Superior
Writers, a nonprofit organization that helps support writers
through workshops, readings, and publications. For further

Feb 11, 7 pm, Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards, authors
of the Third Wave feminist broadside, Manifesta: Young
Women, Feminism, and the Future, will speak in Thorpe
Langley Auditorium, Old Main, UW-Superior. A book selling
and signing will take place after the lecture and at 5 - 6:45
reception in the Multicultural Center, 232 Old Main, with
proceeds going to support the UW-Superior women's studies
library collection. Both events are free and open to the public.

March 19 & 26, April 2 & 9, Stuck? Need a tow to
get you to the end of your story? Finish your prose at a workshop
designed to help you finish what you started. Margi Preus
(herself a winner of several lifetime procrastination achievement
awards) leads "All's Well that Ends at All:: Finish Your
Story" at the College of St. Scholastica. This 4-week
workshop will help you write those final paragraphs, cross
the ts, dot the is and lick the stamp youll
put on the envelope to mail it out to anticipating editors.

April: The Duluth Public Library has announced the selection
for Duluth's second annual Reading: Bridge to a Wider World
project --- Mitch Albom's Tuesdays With Morrie, a New
York Times Bestseller. Tuesdays With Morrie is a poignant
story of a professor and student confronting death, our ultimate
common ground, and how the professor's wisdom can help all
of us. Community-wide events featuring the book will be held
in April 2003. A resource guide will be available at local
book stores and libraries by March 2003. All members of the
community are encouraged to read and discuss the book.
April 11-12, Midwest Writing Workshop with National Geographic
Traveler Writer, Jeff Rennicke Three-day seminar centers on
the ways we connect with our surroundings through writing.
Learn about keeping journals, the revision process and getting
work published, as well as methods for enhancing creativity,
all in the Old Rittenhouse Inn.Two nights lodging, full breakfasts,

Saturday April 26, 1:30 pm. "Writers Speak Out on Loss,"
Green Room, Duluth Public Library. This LSW event is held
in conjuction with the city-wide reading of Mitch Albom's
Tuesdays With Morrie. An open reading will follow the
featured readers.

JAN CHRONISTER, JILL HINNERS, CAITLIN TAYLOR, AND DEBORAH
GORDON COOPER have work in the upcoming issue of Dust and
Fire, published by Bemidji State University. Deb Cooper
won the Diane Glancy Award in Poetry for her poem "One
Bead at a Time."
FRANCINE STERLE reads with Leslie Adrienne Miller and Susan
Steger-Welsh on Sunday, February 16, 7 p.m.at the Mildred

DIANA RANDOLPH, Drummond, recently had work accepted in Poetry
Motel and The Discerning Poet. She also had two
articles published in the Winter Newsletter of CHARAC (Cable/Hayward
Area Arts Council): a book review of Time Management From
the Inside Out by Julie Morgenstern; and a review of Wisconsin
Regional Writers' Association 2002 Fall Conference.

CSS POETRY CONTEST for high school seniors! The College of
St. Scholastica announces the deadline March 1 for its first
annual poetry contest. Send up to three poems (typed, hard

OUT OF THE HAT PLAYS needs script writers! Renegade Comedy
Theatre needs 8-10 writers, 8-10 directors, and a slew of
actors for one-act scripts that are written, directed and
performed in 24 hours. The tentative performance dates are
May 2 & 3, 2003. * Here's how it works: Thursday evening,
each writer gets a who, what, where and then writes a ten
to fifteen minute one act play based on those suggestions
before the next morning. On Friday morning, each director
chooses a script from a hat and then draws names of actors
until his or her script is cast. Friday evening, the doors
open and 8-10 world premieres are staged! After the shows
are complete, the audience provides new suggestions and the
whole process starts all over again for a Saturday night show.

RIVER OF WORDS student poetry and art contest. Sponsored
