***LSW MEMBER KUDOS!
CATHERINE DYBIEC HOLM of Cook, MN was awarded a Minnesota
State Arts Board Prose Fellowship for $4000.
PETER M. LESCHAK's book "Ghosts of the Fireground"
was released in a paperback edition by HarperSanFrancisco
in July. Last summer's hardback version garnered favorable
reviews in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The
New Yorker, The Smithsonian, and several other publications.
A chapter was excerpted in the August 2002 issue of National
Geographic Adventure magazine.
MARK MUNGER was a featured panelist at the Publisher's Forum
portion of the Minneapolis Writers' Workshop Summer Conference
held on August 2 at the
Zurah Shrine Center in Minneapolis. Munger, of Cloquet
River Press, joined representatives from Graywolf Press and
Milkweed Editions to discuss the publishing market, submission
guidelines, and advice.
FRANCINE STERLE is reading her poetry with Helen Ruggieri
at 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, at the Lake Oswego Adult Community
Center, 505 "G" Avenue, Lake Oswego, Oregon.
SEVEN DEADLY SINS WINNERS --- Lake Superior Writers announced
the winning entries of the Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Heavenly
Virtues writing contest. The fourth LSW competition partners
with the 2003/04 Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra series
of concerts. The winners were selected from ninety entries.
They are:

Minnesota)
6. Greed/Generosity: "We Go To Italy in the Spring"

7. Wrath/Brotherhood: "Returning" (prose) by Carol
Dunbar, (Superior, Wisconsin)
The seven authors whose work has been selected will each receive
a $300
honorarium and their work will be published in the Duluth
Superior Symphony
Orchestra programs. A public reading by the seven authors
will take place on
September 27, 1 to 3 pm. at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum
in Duluth.

INTERN NEEDED: Intern needed to help with one of the Lofts
signature programs, the Loft Mentor Series in Poetry and Creative
Prose, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in the 2003-2004
program year. The Loft will plan several special events to
mark this milestone. Intern responsibilities include: author
research; event planning and design; participant recruitment;
