Nov 10, 2 pm, Drummond Public Library: The Second Sunday
Poets present Franco Pagnucci from Barnes, Wisconsin, as the
featured reader. Pagnucci was born in Ruota, Italy, grew up
near Chicago, and taught English at UW Platteville. Included
in his publications are five books of poetry. One of his poems,
"And Now" was included in The Best American Poetry
1999, edited by Robert Bly. The event, sponsored by the
Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and the Cable Hayward Regional
Arts Council, includes an open reading and refreshments.
Nov 11, 7 pm, Award-winning author Susan Griffin will present,
"The Private Life of War: War, Gender, and the Environment"
in the UMD Kirby Ballroom. Using work from her book about
the development of nuclear weapons, A Chorus of Stones,
she will discuss the trend in modern warfare to target civilians,
and violence which can be tied natural resources such as oil.
Griffin will also hold a writing workshop from 1:30 - 3:30
p.m. on Tuesday, Nov 12, in the Kirby Garden Room. For info:

Dec 15, 2 pm, Lake Superior Writers will hold a reading by
winners of its 2002 contest in the Tweed Museum Lecture Gallery,
UMD campus. Poets Eric Gadzinski, Diane Sher Lutovich, and
prose writers Karin Jacobson, Colin Keith Thomsen, and Lou
Killian Zywicki will read their works. The reading will be
accompanied by harpist Bernadette Savage and her singing group,
The Ravens. A $3 donation is suggested. For more

***LSW MEMBER KUDOS!
LINDA GLASER's children's book Our Big Home, An Earth
Poem, was featured on Reading Rainbow (national public
TV) this September as part of a four-part remembrance and
healing after 9/11. The show focussed on global unity and
took place, in part, at the U.N. The show was premiered at
the United Nations on International Literacy Day for the delegates
and their children. LaVar Burton spoke. And Elisa Kleven (the
illustrator) and Linda Glaser signed their book in the U.N.
bookstore. Glaser said, "It was quite a high for both
of us." Glaser also received an ARAC grant to complete
a historical middle grade novel.
FRANCINE STERLE will read poetry at the publication reading
for the new issue of Water-Stone on Nov 22 at 7:30
pm in Sundin Hall, Hamline University.

***SMALL WRITING GROUPS
Writing is an extremely personal activity and often times
a small group works best for giving support and critique.
Several LSW groups meet regularly. When established groups
have openings, we will list the contact people in this space.
Call to arrange a meeting with the contact person to see if
your work and style will be a good fit.
A Creative Nonfiction group will have an organizational meeting
on Oct. 3. If anyone is interested, call Gail Trowbridge at
