KUDOS
LAKE SUPERIOR WRITERS is pleased to announce the twenty winners
of our third annual Writer's Contest. This year's contest
sought entries from writers in the categories of creative
prose and poetry written on the theme, "The Love of Nature,
the Nature of Love." Preliminary judges were Connie Wanek
(poetry) and Konnie LeMay (creative prose). Carol Bly was
the final judge for creative prose manuscripts and Robert
Hedin was the final judge in the poetry category. Each of
the winning authors will recieve an $100 honorarium, publication
in a spring 2002 anthology, and participation in one of four
readings scheduled for 2002. The contest is funded by a generous
grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council and by numerous
individual and business donations.
The twenty winning authors and their hometowns are:
POETRY: Jan Chronister (Maple, WI), Eric Gadzinski (Sault
Ste. Marie, MI), Patricia Kirkpatrick (St. Paul), Kate Kysar
(St. Paul), Kiane Lutovich (Greenbrae, CA), Mark Maire (Duluth),
Lisa McKhann (Duluth) Mary Kay Rummel (Duluth), Jason Splichal
(Eau Claire, WI), and Amy Jo Swing (Duluth).
CREATIVE PROSE: Arlene Atwater (Duluth), Anthony Bukoski
(Superior, WI), Karin Jacobson (Duluth), Lynn Maria Laitala
(Duluth), Margi Preus (Duluth), Yvonne Rutford (Duluth), Caitlin
Taylor (Duluth), Colin Keith Thomsen (Minneapolis), Susan
Niemela Vollmer (Rice Lake, WI), and Lou Killian Zywicki (Carlton,
MN).
