Arlene Atwater was invited by the Minnesota Humanities Commission to serve as a selection panalist for the 2002 Minnesota Book Awards.

Peter M. Leschak will have his ninth book published this summer by HarperSanFrancisco. It's a weave of three threads: the story of Father Peter Pernin and the Great Peshtigo Fire of 1871, the "Big Blow-up" fires of the northern Rockies in 1910, and his personl experiences on the fireground in 2000.

Ann Treacy and Margi Preuss's collection of prayers, A Book of Grace, will be available in area bookstores late April/early May.

CLASSES &WORSHOPS

LAKE SUPERIOR WRITERS offers two workshops, "The Art of Writing: Sound Your Poetic Depths," with Terry Falsani, and "The Art of Writing: Adding Texture and Depth to Prose," with Cal Benson. Both workshops run concurrently on April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration deadline: April 12. Cost is $35 for LSW members, $40 for non-members. Contact Suzanna at 727-1480.

Young Poets Writing Event. Area poets Vi Labounty and Shelly Thompson invite children in grades 2-5 to come listen to and share their favorite poetry, as well as learn to write some of their own. April 27, 10:30 a.m. J.W. Beecroft Books &Coffee. 394-2665.
